Sagrado Corazón Robotics Club
Our Robotics Program
The Robotics Program at Sagrado Corazon started in 2012, when a school teacher, Mrs. Ana Medina, brought it upon herself the goal to find a new extracurricular activity that would test and develop the intellectual abilities of the best students in her school. Mrs. Medina got in contact with the Puerto Rico Institute of Robotics, where she found an activity which provided academic growth of STEM concepts in a challenging, but fun way. The idea had an immediate positive response from the students and their families. From there on our program has grown bigger, stronger, and continues to expand every year.
Since 2012, Sagrado Corazon has competed on the First Lego League, the VEX Robotics competitions of VEX IQ and VEX EDR and recently incorporated into Sea Perch and MATE aquatic robotics competitions. Dozens of the best students in our school have participated and continue to participate on our Robotic Program. We have competed on numerous Regional Competitions, Latin American Competitions and on years 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17 represented Puerto Rico at the VEX Robotics World Championships. In the 2015-16 season, we had five (5) teams representing our school in Regional and Latin American Competitions, out of which, three (3), 2 in VEX IQ and 1 in VEX EDR, went on to represent Puerto Rico at the VEX Worlds in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. In addition, our MATE team, won the 2017 MATE ROV Puerto Rico Competition and got the opportunity to represent the school and Puerto Rico at the 2017 MATE International ROV Competition.
Our program focuses on encouraging participation and teamwork. Everybody is given the opportunity to learn, develop and prove themselves in all areas. With time, every student finds out which areas they like the most and excel at. Our dedicated mentors help students master the skills they already have and teach them those they do not. The knowledge and skills they acquire through our program prepares them to overcome any problem they might run into in robotics, as well as in their everyday lives.
Through the years, the Sagrado Corazon Robotics Program has become well known for its family oriented and hard work approach. We are proud, not only of the achievements the team has brought to our school and our country, but most of all, of our students. Because of this, the Sagrado Corazon Robotics Program has become one of the most respected robotic programs in Puerto Rico.
